It’s opening night for Acting Out! Join us at 7:30PM at Memorial Hall, UNB tonight through Saturday to see the two winners of the 2024 NotaBle Acts One-Acts Playwrighting Contest! The evening will include performances of Predormital by Garrett MacLaughlin and Just Joking by Jilly Hanson.
Predormital by Garrett MacLaughlin
Brock sits in a bar, grief-stricken and on the verge of financial ruin, when he is approached by Vincent, his old college roommate. Vince offers Brock a job testing an experimental new drug that allows you to revisit your past in your dreams, sending Brock down a dangerous rabbit hole where he reunites with his dead lover, Cathy, and confronts the heart of his grief. What follows is an unpredictable and touching journey through Brock’s and Cathy’s relationship and an exploration of love, loss, and letting go.
Just Joking by Jillian Hanson
Sandy has sat with her feelings about her BFF Jer for far too long. She is more than ready to tear off the bandaid to face it head-on at the party they’re hosting. Jer is more than ready, too. To tear off some body hair.
Predormital and Just Joking will be performed as a double-bill, Thursday, August 1 through Saturday, August 3, 7:30 PM nightly, at Memorial Hall, UNB. Post-show reception to follow opening night performance on August 1 at The Grad House, 676 Windsor Street. Join us for a post-show Talkback conversation with the playwrights, actors, and directors after the performance on August 2.
Tickets: $15 General; $10 Students/Seniors/Underemployed, available at the door.
